It does make me question what your impression of CUPE was prior to going to this convention? Nothing that sparks your ire is new and is a problem with the labour movement writ large.

The one issue is with Dobson. I am no supporter of Moist, but if Dobson wanted to challenge the leadership, a proper campaign for leadership would be in order. Not a last minute, from the floor, AFTER the time for the all-candidates speeches was over, and against the democratic vote of the Young Workers Caucus, shambles campaign. None of that 21% was actually FOR Dobson, it wasn’t a campaign FOR anything, it was simply a protest vote – which is fine and useful in some circumstances. My contention is that if she and her supporters were actually serious they would have mounted a campaign. That was just embarrassing and it is, of course, being reframed now as some sort of act of “direct action” now that just makes me shake my head.
